Cleaning Up Like Nobody's Business

E-mail Print PDF

I was busy cleaning up my room like nobody's business, not that we are not clean, but I think there is a bit of superstition, and also a bit of truth. The truth is is there because any dirt or any uncleaned things accumulated last year is not welcome for the forthcoming year. In this sense, it is definitely not just about superstition, dirts or uncleaned accumulations will harm your progress of life and in our case, it will harm success of our activities in benefit of others. So even though I am not that superstitious, I believe in this kind of so-called "superstition".

Most traditions say that old stuffs such as old clothings and old or unattractive things carry unattractive energies that will cause unattractive incidents in your life. As I always say, some traditions are very much true, so we have to follow, although some parts of traditions are entirely nonsense and we should not follow.

Yesterday, from morning until end of the day or even midnight, all practitioners here on Druk Amitabha Mountain, be it nuns, be it monks, be it lay people, all were very busy cleaning, I was very happy standing in the middle of them, watching them climbing on the windows like Mount Everest climbers. It's amazing to see how dedicated they were, without saking them to do it, they were so happy doing it.

I myself was trying to clean my bedroom, it was so messy like nobody's business, it looked like dogs' place, the place where the dogs sleep. I didn't know how to clean it and I still don't know, I have yet known how to do it. It was all I had to do the whole day because it was the mess that I had created for many days, many weeks and even many months. The moral of this is, like our own daily spiritual practice, we have to continue doing it all the time, every day or if you can, every moment, otherwise, how can we get rid of the mess we have accumulated all the time? No way! The situation of my messy room has also been accumulated over time, so now I have to work very hard to clean it up. Let's hope I won't mess it up again. This is a good time to make resolution to abandon old habits too!

This morning, from my side, maybe in your place, it's already passed new year, I don't know where you are, for those of you who are not yet happened, who are still in New Year's Eve or coming soon to the New Year, I want to express "Happy New Year" from depth of my heart. Happy not only this new year, but for the years to come. As we all know that happiness is the most important and also happiness is something that we have the ability to create, it's not something that we have to expect, that is the greatest part of our life.

I also want to take the opportunity make a request. I think we need 1 or 2 sound enginners for the 2nd ADC. Jigme Rabten, Jigme Namdrol, German Senge and Australian Kunga are already there, but they are really looking for 1 or 2 more sound engineers because we are having so much great machines for the 2nd ADC, and we need professional volunteers to help. Please write to Druk Amitabha Office ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) and let them know if any of you are able to help.

Once again, happy new YEARS (many of them) and I look forward to seeing some of you soon in Ladakh and Kathmandu!
