Happy birthday to our 2nd ADC Chairman, Kyabje Khamtrul Rinpoche Jigme Pema Nyinjadh! I thought I should follow the western style and put this up right now so that some of you can wish him a very happy birthday, which is actually tomorrow on 29th. Since he is now on the way to Ho Chi Minh to meet me for a very big national event in Vietnam as one of the chief guest, I think the monks and nuns at Druk Amitabha Mountain gave him an early birthday party, which is very nice of them. He has been working very hard for the lineage, not only just following my instructions, but really doing it because he feels strongly about his own responsibility of being a spiritual master of this lineage.
Many people always tell me how much they love me, how much they wish to help me and how much they want me to live long. Of course, I am nobody actually. But very mysteriously it is said in some of the holy texts that if the disciples follow their guru's instructions for the benefit of all beings through supporting the lineage, the guru will live long. In this way, I think I have no choice but to honour and accept Kyabje Khamtrul Rinpoche's request, even though sometimes I really feel very tired and bored about all the ups and downs among my friends and students. I don't want to say that I am obliged to stay here. What I want to say is that when someone uses not only the heart to request, but also request with their activities that are in accordance with the teaching and the Dharma, then it makes sense to live longer to support and inspire each other, why not?
What I don't really like about is people feeling negative about each other because of very small misunderstanding. I don't like you or I hate you because you are not listening to me or because I don't like your idea or because you and I do not get along. You drag everyone else to your party by your judging attitude and divide people or rather your Vajra or Dharma brothers and sisters among those whom you can get along with and those whom you can't get along with. Anyway, human relationship is a very big headache, everyone only seems to look at their own differences, but they never look at their similarity.
For example, I was reading in the news that there was this wonderful activity called Earth Hour yesterday. People had to switch off their light for 1 hour to save energy so that we can reduce the carbon footprint. My understanding is that if we switch off the lights and electricity for 1 hour, we can reduce a lot of carbon dioxide that is emitted and we can help to reduce the global warming impact. So this is a similar goal that we all should be focusing our energy on, instead of looking at other people and say or think different nasty things about them. We are mostly full of negativity, therefore we are full of criticisms and doubts about others, actually we are double face. We accept everything about ourselves and we reject everything about others, unless they agree with us. This means that we are not yet spiritual. Even if we seem to be spiritual externally, we are not genuinely spiritual, we are fabricating spirituality. This also means that we are like plastic. Credit cards are sometimes known as plastic cards, which is very true, plastic money that you spend which is not genuinely yours will bring you a lot of stress and pain if you don't know how to manage. I actually wanted to ask my monasteries and nunneries and offices to switch off the light for 1 hour, unfortunately we didn't have a chance to do this because most of the time, we don't have electricity. So that means if we don't have the luxury of having electricity and abusing this, we would not be creating all the suffering like natural disasters for ourselves. This goes to show that human cleverness and inventions are now a burden not only to one person but to the entire world. Our happiness is now a big suffering, what a karma! Actually, any wish with a selfish intention and any negative thought and action will bring negative result, whether you believe it or not. It is exactly like a boomerang, you will get it!
Coming back to Kyabje Khamtrul Rinpoche's birthday, I know that like me, he is not used to celebrating birthday. He is very sweet, he is always thinking about my longevity, I am always saying to him that he also has to live long. All of us have to live long if we are here having the ability to help others, why not? I am not saying that people who don't think or pray about my longevity are very bad or nasty people, not at all. Everyone has the right to have their own view. I am saying that it is very kind of him to wish for my long life. So as I said a few days ago, I was also deeply wishing for his long life when we were releasing 1 million fish at Ha Long Bay. Anyway, I don't have much to say, except that we should all say "Happy Birthday" to Kyabje Khamtrul Rinpoche and wish him all the happiness and long life, okay?
