Ladakh, Here I Come

E-mail Print PDF

I was not thinking of writing anything, but since I will be away in Ladakh for a couple of weeks, I thought I should share some wonderful news about our Rinpoches' activities. It is nice to know that everyone is busy helping others in one way or another. If we have to live in this world for quite awhile, why not spend our time and energy for positive activities? Happiness will come when you bring happiness to others.

Recently, Khamtrul Rinpoche Jigme Pema Nyinjadh was quite busy, doing pooja for the victims of Gyekundo earthquakes and giving teaching to many people in Bhutan. I am very moved when I saw the photos and news on his web. Sometimes, I feel very sorry for young tulkus who, instead of seemingly having fun in the mundane world, have to work so hard to support our monastic organisations and lay communities, which have been around for almost a thousand years. Many of our organisations and people are still living in the state of mind that is more than 200 years old. But we have a lot of catching up to do. Therefore, I always admire those Rinpoches who are able to cope with the fast changing environment and to balance it with the traditional values that come with their many lives of practice and training.

I was also very moved to know that Khamtrul Rinpoche Shedrub Nyima has gone to Kinnaur to support our lineage activities there. Of course, there are many other masters who are constantly busy, thinking of ways to help others and to benefit them. This kind of life is not wasted and you would feel very fulfilled afterwards.

Some of the reporters came and interviewed me, and they gave me a chance to speak in my mother tongue. It's quite interesting and also it gave me a chance to clarify many issues. A lot of people have clouds in their minds and I hope I had managed to clear them. What I have found out is that most people are more keen to learn about dramatic things, which are more exciting than spiritual teaching that normally talks about peace, harmony, love, all the calm and boring things. Dramatic news is always the one that catches people's attention. Unfortunately, I don't have much drama to share. Anyway, I hope whatever answers I have given today will be of much use for others in terms of understanding our lineage and our stance in the areas of humanitarian directions.

If internet connection in Ladakh has improved, there may be chance that I can send you some news from there. Otherwise, I will write again later when I return.
