Tree Planting
22nd
January 2008
When I arrived in London, I received a very happy news from Malaysia, coming from Lhachok Rinpoche's Drukpa Butterworth members. On 20th January, the 3rd Sunday of the month, they have initiated tree planting as one of their Live to Love activities.
I think it would be a great idea if they can write more about their experience and put the news up on the Live to Love website, so as to inspire others.
I know that it's very hot and humid in Malaysia, therefore when I saw the photos Drukpa Butterworth members sent to me through my office, I was very moved that they took the trouble to put LIVE TO LOVE into practice, although I can see from the photos that there were not so many of them. I wonder what's happening with other of my friends and students in Malaysia and other places on 20th January. So far, I have only seen a few activities on Live to Love website. I think it's time for all of us not to be lazy and put our good heart and thoughts into practice. I am really looking forward to seeing more news on the Live to Love website. Maybe Gavin can help to organise this website a little bit, so that the change in language is easier. I sometimes click on English and it goes to French, and some people told me that one of the the small icons is not even saying Chinese, it's saying "Hong Kong".
I also feel that it would be a very good idea if people like my friends and students who want to do Live to Love would wear the Live to Love T-Shirts that the Drukpa Butterworth members are wearing in the photos. Since we are spreading the message of Live to Love, we should be also wearing something so that people can see the message clearly. I think now I want those of you who are interested to support Live to Love activities to wear this kind of T-Shirts, with the big logo in front and "Live to Love" below the logo. I would be so happy to see everyone wearing it when they carry out the Live to Love activities. I think my friends and students in Hong Kong were also wearing the same type of T-Shirts, as I could see in the Live to Love website. Let's make this a standard design!
I want to tell you a bit about my love for trees. It's really sometimes very painful for me to see trees being taken out from the ground, to make way for roads and buildings. Since beginningless of time, trees, plants and flowers have given us food, shelter, medicine, clothing, tools, heat in the winter and shade in the summer. Most importantly, trees give us oxygen. Unless you are not a living being, I think you need oxygen to live in this world. We are not made by batteries, wires and plastics. I even found out scientifically that trees even help to reduce pollution, they capture the sunlight and convert the sunlight into energy.
Therefore when I think about the values of trees, I really feel very moved, at the same time very sad by the fact that we are having less trees.
As I said many times in my teachings and in this web, tree planting is one of the most important Live to Love activities for me. Every tree that is planted by my friends and students is a wish come true for me. So I want to thank Lhachok Rinpoche to wisely guide his students and members of Drukpa Butterworth in fulfilling a number of wishes for me on 20th January, since 1 tree planted is 1 wish fulfilled for me.
LIVE TO LOVE!
