Writing Again
29th April 2008

I have a bit of time tonight. I will add up whatever I was telling you and share some photos about my simple life here. Everyday, the nuns, about 200 of them, wake up at 3am, do their meditation and personal practice. By 6am, we start our group prayers in the temple and then at about 10am, I will give some instructions and comments about Ngondro practice, that is the Four Foundations, which include 100 thousand prostrations, 100 thousand Vajrasattva, 100 thousand Mandala Offering and 100 thousand Guru Yoga. Actually most of the nuns here have already completed minimum 3 to 4 sets of Ngondro, but since there are also new nuns, I thought of starting them with Ngondro and of course, hoping to help them develop the correct motivation, and also those nuns who have done before they can treat this as revision. I guess in that way, I am quite a stubborn and traditional master, it's really difficult for me to teach higher tantra if my students and friends haven't finished not even one set of Ngondro. Mostly, in such a degenerate time, gurus should be giving easier treatment to their students and friends, such as not necessarily to do Ngondro and etc, otherwise gurus will have no job because there will be no qualified followers. But so far I am proud to say that my nuns, some monks and of course some lay followers are fulfilling my wishes, so far so good!

Then in the afternoon, some nuns are learning English, some are learning rituals, some are learning Tibetans, evening we practise together and sometimes, I give some specific instructions to the senior nuns.

Today, we did an extensive Mitrupa pooja for the dead. As you know, we often receive offerings for prayers, especially for dead people. Personally, I am very cautious with offering money, especially for dead people, why? This is because offerings as such if not used for the benefit of the dead will lead to the problems of the dead getting lower rebirth and eventually will result in my own falling, I mentioned this in "My Crazy Tale" that this can be known as Black Offering, or Kor Nag. I feel uncomfortable to use this sort of offerings or any sort dedicated for benefits of beings for own use or for enjoyment of any sort. This is something my gurus have been cautioning me about and I am lucky that I have been able to follow.

Langna Rinpoche and Kunga Rinpoche are here with me. Langna Rinpoche is doing his Ngondro and a retreat, and Kunga Rinpoche is assisting me in all the poojas and ceremonies, and he is also helping to teach Vietnamese and Malaysian nuns basic Tibetan. I hope the nuns are doing fine. By the way, I want to tell you a bit about Kunga Rinpoche. Those of you who have been around me for quite some time should be knowing who he is. Before enthronement, he was known as Pema Namgyal and he was one of my attendants and monk disciples. Just about a year ago, as the time became appropriate, I enthroned him as Kunga Rinpoche. His previous life was a direct disciple of the great terton Drubwang Shakya Shri and he had a great following in Garsha. When he was old, he did not have to walk, he was always carried by two of his disciples, wherever he went. One of these two had a son shortly after the previous Kunga Rinpoche passed away. The child was recognised by both of my gurus, His Holiness Dudjom Rinpoche and Kyabje Thuksey Rinpoche, as reincarnation of Kunga Rinpoche. But due to some obstacles, the official recongition never happened. His father offered him to me when he was about 15 years old and only a year ago that I felt appropriate to formally enthrone him. I know due to his loving devotion towards me, it is very difficult for him to leave me for his monastery in Garsha, but one day, he will need to go back to his community and lead them. As people like us, believe it or not, are supposed to be living to benefit and guide others. I ask you, my friends and students, to give him all the encouragement you can, so that he would have no problems to help his community when the time comes.

A few weeks ago, at the numerous requests of my students in Vietnam and the girl's parents, I have finally decided to ordain this small girl. She is now known as "Jigme Rangjung Khandro", the Fearless Self-Arising Dakini and she is only 5 years old. I have requested to keep 3 parts of her hair, without shaving everything, as a reminder of refuge to the three roots, Guru, Daka and Dakini. I am so happy to be able to help children when they are young. These days, I think the young people follow what I call the "junk" spirituality. What is it? Junk food, junk music, junk fashion, everything that is junk is their spiritual belief. It is full of I, I and I. So health goes down, spirits go down, life goes down. I don't really know what I can do in my minimum ability to help them. I don't think they would ever want to be monks or nuns, nor would they be interested to come for teachings, poojas or pilgrimage. I think, guidance from parents are very important to connect children with spirituality when they are very young, so that when they grow up they will at least be grounded and protected innerly from many different kinds of violent behaviours, negative emotions, etc. It's important, I think.

However, there are some young girls over here who really want to be ordained as my nuns. I sent 3 or 4 of them coming from the village here to another nunnery in Pharping because I just don't have the place and the resources to have more nuns. Because of shortage of diesel, prices have gone up like nobody's business. It is costing me 3 times more than usual to run Druk Amitabha Mountain. I feel sorry for those of my friends and students who are helping in the fundraising team. Funds are forever insufficient because of daily inflation. Just last week price of cement was only 400 rupees per bag, today it is 650 rupees. So now, our initial budget prepared to build 2 more blocks for our nuns has to be used to complete other ongoing projects. Looks like some of my poor nuns have to continue to squeeze themselves in some small rooms. I really pray that the situation here will improve. Otherwise, this is really one of the best places for spiritual practice, full of blessings, and the weather is really very good. Nuns don't get sick as they do in Ladakh.

Yesterday, a very old friend of mine, Tashi Dorje, and his daughter paid me a surprise visit. Tashi is one of the most helpful persons for Hemis. Ever since I was very small, I have seen how hard Tashi worked for Hemis and the restoration. He used to be the Deputy Commissioner of Ladakh, now he is promoted and lives in Jammu. It is very rare to meet someone like him these days. His father is a great yogi in Ladakh and his brothers are great practitioners, our beloved Amchi Rigzin, the doctor that you all know, is his brother. He is very successful at work and also has a very strong mind to practise. He is here with his youngest daughter to do over 100 koras at Swayambhunath Stupa. Can you believe it? I don't think many people who are successful at work would make that much effort. I am sure some of you would do that, but I don't think many of you would do that, would you? It is so difficult for some of you to leave your work, your house and your family and friends, to even give yourself a break, so it would be more difficult to come to Kathmandu for 10 days, just to do koras. Your friends must be thinking that you are crazy, don't you think so? To be able to keep the balance between mundane and spiritual life and be successful doing both is really a great quality. I want to congratulate Tashi Dorje for being able to do this.

My parents are having a lot of rest so their health is more stable. I don't want them to have any stress. It's time for them to enjoy and relax. Of course, great practitioners like them don't think like that. They are constantly practising for the sake of everyone. I am so lucky to have them as my parents, they have given me all the mundane love and spiritual guidance. In this sense, I am really a lucky chap.

Well, I guess my long message must be very boring for you. So I will stop now for the time being. will stop now for the time being.
