Visiting Asia
14th June 2008

My recent trip to Hong Kong raising funds for my father's Zhichen Monastery had apparently turned out to be quite successful in many cases.  I want to thank all the organisers at Druk Foundation Ltd. for the successful outcome of this event. Although the last day of teaching fell on Monday, people still came and made an effort to learn more about Lord Buddha's teaching. I think it's amazing that people in the city could spare that much time and effort to come and listen to my gossips. Orgyen Master, who is actively helping my father with Zhichen Monastery, brought many new faces from Shenzhen and Shanghai. I was very happy to see new people, especially young ones, coming to join us. I told those people in charge of my organisations that we should be helping new people understand the meaning of Love and Life, through the Live to Love activities.

Talking about Live to Love, I recently went up to the website to have a look, it seems that many activities are happening everywhere, either in groups or individually. One thing I want to say here is any business company wishing to use Live to Love for their own events, I am thankful for their love for me and my lineage, but I think there should be some guidelines for non-Drukpa-affiliated groups or commercial organisations wishing to run Live to Love campaigns, otherwise public will be confused with our own Live to Love activities.

Not too long ago, when one of my students wanted to use Live to Love as the theme for their company's function to support me and our Live to Love activities, I advised that he should be using another name instead, if he genuinely wanted to help and later on during his event, he raised funds for Live to Love activities and sent the money to Druk Foundation Ltd. in Hong Kong as part of the contribution to Druk White Lotus School in Ladakh. Or in other cases, I have told them to use our Live to Love logo and get our own Sangha to participate as partners or joint organisers. I am worried if the guidelines are not set up now, one day our beautiful idea of Live to Love will definitely be abused for other egoistic purposes. I think it's time that Druk Foundation in Hong Kong who is holding the Live to Love rights for our lineage to draft some constitutions to ensure that these beneficial activities will not be non-beneficial later on.

One of the things I would like to suggest here is that money raised from any fundraising activities using Live to Love should be provided to the various Drukpa Centres for the intended purposes, or to the various humanitarian funds either by Druk Foundation in Hong Kong, in the United States, by Drukpa Trust or Drukpa UK in United Kingdom, or by Drukpa Humanitaire in France. When it comes to money, I think we should be having very clear instructions to avoid problems later on. Together with my organisations, my friends and students, we are all working hard to make Live to Love a popular activity everywhere in the world, along with this, Live to Love as an extension of our 800-year legacy must be cautiously taken care of so that the fruits will benefit many beings immediately and in the long term. I hope that everyone of you who wishes to help me and my lineage nourish the idea and activities of Live to Love to be genuinely mindful and supportive of Live to Love for me, my colleagues and the lineage.

Overall, I am happy that many activities are happening and results seem to be benefitting many beings in our own local communities.

There is also one other issue, instead of wearing different T-Shirts of Live to Love, I did mention before that to stick to one design. Uniformity is important to spread the message of Live to Love in this mundane world.

This time in Hong Kong, I also met those who are responsible for my forthcoming trip to Taiwan. They have come to meet me so as to confirm some technical issues during my visit. I concluded the meeting by saying that this forthcoming trip to Taiwan after so many years should be a meaningful and effective one for the lineage and its followers. Just like other followers, they asked me if I would like to have some help with the unfinished projects, I sincerely highlighted that this time there won't be a need to bother the people of Taiwan with fundraising. I hope they felt a little lighter after hearing what I told them. I really meant it when I said those words to them. Of course, we all need plenty of funds to run everything, such as spiritual-related schools, monasteries, meditation centres, medicial clinics, running costs, electricity, etc. But my main motivation of this forthcoming visit to Taiwan is to reinforce the relationship between the Drukpa Lineage and our Taiwanese followers who are like my old friends. I also reassured this group of organisers that I did not give Taiwan up and I will never give anyone up. This is not a Bodhisattva way of practising if I ever give up one single being at any cost. Unfortunately, I kept on overhearing many other people say that I had given up on Taiwan. Why should I? It was only a long break, that's all. Remember I told you that there was a big gap between the first and second Drukpa, it was more than 200 years before Kunga Paljor the second Drukpa returned to this world. Don't worry, I wasn't thinking of leaving them alone for that long.

Lama Sonam, my representative in Taiwan, had been very good in keeping the lineage alive in my absence. In fact, I am very proud that a new temple dedicated for our Pelden Drukpa Lineage will be ready for the first time in the history of the lineage in Taiwan. My heartfelt thanks goes to Lama Sonam for his effort in following my instructions, to help materialising my dream. So, I would say that one of the main reasons for my visit to Taiwan is to consecrate the new temple and lead the inaugural ceremony.

The last time I was in Taiwan, I guess it was 13 years ago. Well, I am glad that I am still here in this world to fulfill the wishes of others in physical form in general and especially this time along with the inauguration of the Drukpa Temple in Taiwan, the grand celebration of 800 years of legacy of the Drukpa Lineage will also be participated by all of us in Taiwan. I think many students from many parts of the world will join together in this celebration. So it will be an international gathering of the Drukpa Lineage followers.

As I have just decided to prolong my stay in Vietnam for a few more days, I will need to postpone programs in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to after Drukpa Penang's programs, which will remain on the same days.

I have also accepted H.E. Drakseng Rinpcohe's invitation to inaugurate his new monastery in Musoorie, South India, in September. Drakseng Rinpoche is one of the most accomplished masters of our lineage and was recognised by the Eleventh Drukpa. As there are many holy places related to Nagarjuna and other holy masters, I am now considering to organise a short pilgrimage. First, I will find out the exact date and then I will put the details on my web.

This time, I don't have any photos to show. I am waiting for Druk Foundation in Hong Kong to send me some photos of the recent trip so that I can share with you all.

Before I finish, I want to request the centres to actively update the news and design on their websites, especially I think that it's about time for the webmasters of Drukpa Paris, Drukpa Kuala Lumpur and Drukpa Germany to do something soon. I hope that all our related websites will also be putting a link to the official website of ADC. I have gone through all the webs just now, many have not put the links yet. So this is a homework for the webmasters who have not done their job. I will be checking again.

I also see that some extra money is there for the Burmese and Chinese victims. So I think now we should be sending the money for Burmese victims to Venerable Master Hsin Tao and the portion for earthquake victims in China can be used for direct help or for double donation with another bank. I hope I will get some report later on.

That's all for now. Although I want to write more, I think the translators will be too busy. I will write again when I have a bit of time in a few days.
